Celebrity chef Pete Evans’ restaurant Asana is nothing short of magical. Inspired by his personal food philosophy, Evans has created a clean eating haven featuring paleo-inspired meals made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Asana’s menu also caters to vegans and vegetarians with most meals gluten-free and dairy-free across the whole menu.
Nestled on the ground floor of the bustling hotel Capri in the heart of the city, Asana is open and light courtesy of the glass walls which allow natural light to flood the space and create a relaxed, airy and soft atmosphere. The decor features pale green walls and dark wood furniture, a colour combination which reflects Asana’s food philosophy of creating natural, wholesome and minimally processed food the way nature intended.
The thick-cut sweet potato chips with homemade aioli was a perfect starter. Perfectly seasoned, slightly crispy on the outside and soft but dense on the inside, the sweet potato chips were extra special because they weren’t simply your frozen and fried variety, they were hand-cut and cooked to perfection in high quality coconut oil. The aioli could have easily been devoured by itself; it was rich, flavoursome, not too salty and complemented the mellow sweetness of the sweet potato chips incredibly well. A must order!
A fresh, modern take on an Italian classic, the raw zucchini vegan lasagna was the highlight of the night! Rich tomato, creamy cashew and succulent olive ‘mince’ blended together perfectly between layers of soft, warm zucchini slices. A delicate dish carefully constructed with some of Queensland’s finest produce, it would impress anyone with a penchant for clean, nutritious food with a modern twist. It’s gluten-free, dairy-free, nutritious and highly recommended for vegans and vegetarians.
Moderately priced with lunch specials tailored for office workers, Asana accommodates families, couples and is also a perfect venue for a business meeting. With a soft, relaxed ambience and an extensive menu that caters for the carnivores, vegans, vegetarians and gluten-free folk of Brisbane, Asana by Pete Evans is an excellent restaurant to visit!
